The Image merge type inserts images into the generated document using values from your Google Sheets™ spreadsheet.
The selected source column must contain links to the images you want to merge. Images can be stored in Google Drive™ or hosted on the Internet.
AnyMerge Docs supports the following image formats:
PNG
JPEG
GIF
Use this option to control how images are displayed in the generated document.
Available options include:
Inserts the image using its original dimensions.
Use this option when the source images are already optimized for the desired output.
Specify the image width in pixels.
The image height is automatically adjusted to preserve the original aspect ratio.
Specify the image height in pixels.
The image width is automatically adjusted to preserve the original aspect ratio.
Specify both the width and height in pixels.
This option gives you complete control over image dimensions.
You can make inserted images clickable by assigning hyperlinks to them.
When readers click the image in the generated document, they are redirected to the specified destination.
AnyMerge Docs provides several ways to configure image links.
Use values from another spreadsheet column as the destination links. Each image can therefore point to a different destination.
The table below illustrates the result. Let's say you have Image URL and Link columns.
The generated document will include the Ernest Hemingway image, and clicking the image will open the corresponding Wikipedia article.
Use the same destination link for all generated images.
Every inserted image will point to the specified URL.
This option is useful when all images should direct readers to the same website, product page, or support article.
When enabled, AnyMerge Docs shortens image links using Bitly before inserting them into the document.
This option is available only if you have configured a Bitly Access Token in the Settings page.
If your images are stored in Google Drive™, make sure the files are temporarily shared with Anyone with the link while generating documents.
AnyMerge Docs uses the more restrictive drive.file permission and does not have direct access to arbitrary files stored in your Google Drive. Instead, the add-on retrieves images using their shared links.
If a Google Drive image is not shared appropriately, the add-on will not be able to insert it into the generated document.
After document generation is complete, you can change the sharing settings back if needed.
This requirement applies only to images stored in Google Drive. Images hosted on publicly accessible websites can be used without additional configuration.
