The Codes tab allows you to generate QR codes and barcodes directly from Google Sheets™.
Select a cell or range of cells, choose a code type, and preview the generated codes before exporting. You can adjust QR code sizes, select barcode formats, add labels, and save the results to Google Docs™ or as PNG image files in Google Drive™.
Optional Bitly integration is available for URL shortening.
The Code Type dropdown lets you choose between QR Codes and Barcodes.
QR Codes – Generate QR codes from text, URLs, or other spreadsheet values. Adjust their size using the QR Code Size slider.
Barcodes – Generate barcodes from spreadsheet values using one of 12 supported formats, including Code 128, EAN-13, and UPC-A. Select the desired format from the Barcode Type dropdown.
The Preview panel automatically updates when you switch between code types.
Enable Use Labels to display text below generated QR codes or barcodes. When enabled, you must select two adjacent cells or a range containing exactly two adjacent columns:
First column – Contains the values to encode.
Second column – Contains the labels displayed below the generated codes.
The Preview panel displays each generated code together with its corresponding label.
When Use Labels is disabled, select a single cell or a range in one column.
The Preview panel lets you inspect generated QR codes and barcodes before exporting.
Single cell – Automatically displays the generated code for the selected cell.
Multiple cells – Use the navigation arrows to preview codes from the selected range.
Live updates – The preview updates automatically when you change the code type, QR code size, or barcode format.
Labels – Displays labels below codes when Use Labels is enabled.
Empty values – Automatically skips empty cells and rows.
The panel also displays the source cell reference and generated code dimensions.
You can enable or disable the Preview panel in Settings.
Enable Save to Google Docs™ to create a Google Docs™ document containing all generated QR codes or barcodes from the selected spreadsheet range.
Each generated code is placed in a table cell, with an optional label displayed below it when Use Labels is enabled.
You can also enable Draw Border to add borders around the table cells.
The document is saved to your configured output folder in Google Drive™. You can change the document name and output folder in Settings.
Enable Draw Border to add borders around the table cells containing generated QR codes or barcodes in the Google Docs™ document.
When disabled, the table borders are hidden, giving the generated codes a cleaner appearance.
This option applies only when Save to Google Docs™ is enabled.
Enable Save as PNG Files to save generated QR codes or barcodes as individual PNG image files in Google Drive™.
Each code is saved as a separate image in your configured output folder.
File names are assigned automatically:
Use Labels enabled – Each PNG file is named using its corresponding label.
Use Labels disabled – Files are numbered sequentially, such as QR Code 1, QR Code 2, QR Code 3, etc.
You can enable both Save as PNG Files and Save to Google Docs™ to generate both output formats.
You can change the output folder in Settings.
